ガラクトピア

気が付けば僕のまわりはガラクタで埋め尽くされていた。
描きかけの絵や作りかけの歌や、お菓子のおまけ、ヘンなかたちの石、大きなネジやボルトまで。
挙げればきりがないのだが、どれも他人からすればゴミ同然の品ばかりである。
そんなものと戯れては、また新たなガラクタが増える。そんなことを繰り返してきた。
誰に頼まれたわけでもなく、誰に注意されたところでやめるわけでもなく。
これは、今に始まったことではないのだ。
むしろ生まれてこのかた、今まで、好き好んでガラクタ集めをしては、
その中で手を変え品を変え遣り繰りすることに、言い知れぬ快感と無限の可能性を感じていたのだ。
およそ完全とは言いがたいものを掛け合わせては何か面白いものを作ろうとワクワクするのである。
独創性とはそういうところから生まれてくる、とすら思っている。
今回、その膨大にある、いとおしむべきガラクタたちを置いておく世界をつくった。
それも、独断と偏見をふんだんに盛り込んで。
すると彼らには素晴らしい命が宿り、思ってもみなかった可能性をつかんだのだ。
出来上がった世界はデタラメ、ラクガキ、ガラクタ。

また一つ大切な大切なガラクタが増えてしまった。

GARAKUTOPIA

Before I knew it, I was surrounded by heaps of gadgets and junks.
There were half-finished drawings and songs, snack box freebies, funny-looking stones, and large screws and bolts.
While the list may go endlessly, they were equally useless in the eyes of other people.
I toyed around with them and produced even more junks. My activities basically consisted of repeated multiplication of junks.
No one asked me to do so, and no one, even if they dare, can stop me from doing so.
It has been an ongoing process for many years.
I can even say that, since I was born, I have been finding immense pleasure and limitless possibilities in the act of collecting junks and remaking them into something else by combining them in different ways.
It excites me when I try to combine imperfect things to create something unusual.
I even believe that creativity takes its root in such activities.
This time, I have created a world where I can store my beloved piles of junks.
Furthermore, I filled the world with chock-full of my selfish discretions and stereotypes.
Then, lo and behold, the junks came wonderfully alive and filled themselves with possibilities they have never dreamt of.
The world, now complete, is a total mess made of unruly doodles and junks.

Here comes an addition to my precious, precious collection of junks.
